The new Tubs song ‘Narcissist’- the second single from ‘Cotton Crown’- is out.
I thought I’d write a short essay about the song for my paid subscribers (thank you). In a few weeks, I’ll also give you special guys a secret link to a new-new Tubs song we've demoed for our third (and probably best) album. It’s a pretty high quality demo and we’ve got another in the bank so don’t think you’re just shelling out for boring old essays….

Like most of the songs on Cotton Crown, Narcissist was written during the interesting, anguished period following the end of my five year relationship. The grief I’d stored up following my mother’s suicide was unleashed in all kinds of Freudian ways, and I wrote most of the songs during a sort of manic promiscuous (at least for me) era which lasted a few months and preceded a mental breakdown. I was about to turn 30 and felt a sense of urgency, partly for the usual reasons, but also because I probably knew I’d have to get round to having the breakdown eventually. I was on borrowed time. There were already signs. I wasn’t eating and lost a lot of weight- though this coincided nicely with my new singledom.
